Hi\n\nMy wife found out she have crohn recently, by having full obstruction, and emergency surgery. No signs or symptoms. \n\nAfter she was discharged 5 weeks ago, she started the diet with 1 week clear veg. Soup only, and then 2 weeks with chicken, eggs, meat, cooked vegetables, fish, organic grape juice, and SCD vitamins. \nLast week she started honey and a little almond flour and cashew butter. \nShe improved and doing really well. \nShe is also on Flagyl Capri and 40 mg prednisone, and since Monday started weaning off the Flagyl and prednisone. (35 mg), after blood work showed that everything is normal. \n\nYesterday she ate 1st time cake she made with coffee, baking soda, almond flour, coconut oil. She also started drinking a little orange juice. \n\nLast night she had stomach pain for about half an hour, after not having it a month. \nToday she had very watery diarrhea after every meal. \n\nIs it the new food or maybe the weaning off the meds?\nShould she go back to proteins and veg. Only for few days, or can continue with everything she ate before yesterday?\nHow long the diarrhea will last if it’s from the new food or the juice she had?\n\nThank you

Hope your wife has recovered in the past 10 days. In my successful experience following strict SCD for the past six years, I highly recommend returning to cooked animal protein and vegetables and soup until back to normal, then carefully introducing new foods when feeling better. In the first year or two, I often experienced discouraging weeks of pain and diarrhea, and just returned to simple cooked food until okay again. The bouts decreased in frequency, duration and distress over time. Soup is good, because it is important to stay hydrated and electrolytes balanced and allow digestion to rest a little.\n\n I noticed that you mentioned coffee and orange juice, these could be the culprits, and I would remind you that only extremely weak brewed coffee is allowed even if you are only having a small amount, no instant coffee, and no watering down of strongly brewed coffee. Orange juice needs to be extremely watered down, I recommend just flavoring water with juices.\n\n I would also also recommend making treats without almond flour at first, I set myself back a few times getting so hungry for treats made with almond flour. Try banana pancakes, which are easier on the gut. Mash a banana, mix in 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, a pinch of sea salt, and two eggs. Beat mixture until bubbly. Heat frying pan on medium, grease with a little cultured butter, and drop by 1/4 cup measures onto hot pan. Flip wth spatula when looking a little dry near the edges. Makes about 6 little pancakes that hit the spot with a cup of extremely weak black coffee or weak black tea.\n\nGood luck to you!
