I have been following the SCD very strictly for about 9 years now for IBD. I also take Humira. I have been asymptomatic for the last 3 years. I wasn't feeling as well when just did diet without Humira. Do you think I can now relax the diet a bit? How would you go about it? Looking to hear from people who have successfully gone off the diet. Thanks.

SCD is not a lifelong diet, and when ready, we are very much for adding healthy grains and other stuff such as quinoa, kasha, cocoa, carob, sweet potato, yucca, etc. However, if it were me, I would like to see myself off Humira before hurrying off the diet. You may want to upgrade your SCD so your body is strong enough to be without the Humira - like adding plenty of home-fermented foods to your diet, drinking fresh green juice daily, etc.

I have been on the SCD for 10 years with much success. It was my understanding that it was a forever diet and was surprised at Esther's answer to this question. Since then I have tried kasha and quinoa and initially thought they would be okay but now symptoms are beginning to return. I tried them in small amounts with a few days between each attempt. I will shelve them for a while until I'm back on track and then try only one at a time. Maybe one of them will be work. \n\nAs suggested, I would try to get off the Humera before changing diet.

Hi, Iv'e been on the diet for over 4 years now and am feeling great -Thank G-D. I saw a natural "healer" guy a year and a half ago who told me that spelt is okay for me, I waited till 2 months ago and tried "Organic Sprouted Spelt" from One Degree (available online at Target, amazon etc.), and made a Pita recipe that I found online (no yeast, no baking powder needed). I started eating it once a week then twice, and I'm doing very well so far. Each person should obviously weigh their personal situation.\n\nBesides, on the SCD website (Breaking the vicious cycle), they only **doubt** sprouted grain bread in the first place. (and I'm using: 1) Sprouted 2) Organic Spelt 3) no yeast, as opposed to Ezekiel bread, that has multiple grains, and Yeast!)

...To get a more soft and fluffy Pita/bread, add a 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to each recipe.

Hi, I have not on Humira but I just started a new medication called entyvio... How would you advise somebody to so they go off their medications? Does it have to be after a few years of remission? Whenever I bring it up to my doctor they say well if you are feeling good it's probably because of the medications and they do not want to take me off

My son has been on the diet for 7 years now. We've slowly added a few tings. Cocoa, Rice... A few servings a day for a few days and carefully watching how he was feeling after each new food. (Potatoes did not work for him) We have also become slightly less strict about ingredients (like using lemon juice from concentrate or standard garlic powder) which makes things much easier. (Rice cakes for snacks!) Not sure if that counts as going off the diet...
