SCD and Vinegar, the allowed and the not allowed
Thanks so much for this wonderful forum. Are all types of vinegar ok to use? balsamic, apple cider. ...
SCD and Vinegar, the allowed and the not allowed
Most vinegars are allowed with the exception of balsamic vinegar. Also, apple cider vinegar is legal only when clear and has no visible "mother".

Hello Esther: Can you explain why Balsamic Vinegar is not allowed, even the ones labeled "Gluten Free"?
SCD and Vinegar, the allowed and the not allowed
Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering the "reasoning" about balsamic vinegar being illegal. Does it contain sugar or something?
SCD and Vinegar, the allowed and the not allowed
Balsamic vinegar is allowed only when very aged and with no hidden sugar or starches.\n\nHere's excerpt an older post: \nI recall that Elaine said that real balsamic aged a long time (15 or more years) would be legal as long as there are no added illegals, including no added sugar. Grape must is a legal ingredient in vinegar. I also found this post from Marilyn: "...GOOD, EXPENSIVE balsamic is okay. Cheap stuff, with sugar added, is not. 20 years fermented vinegar might be better if you can get it.\n\n Marilyn" from https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/BTV ... 3218\n\nSo if the supplier will give you a letter that confirms the ingredients, it may be fine.

Thanks for clarifying Esther! Are you aware of any kosher brand of SCD legal balsamic vinegar? I've been searching, but most have caramel color added.

I do know of a kosher brand that has only clean ingredients, however, I'm not sure of the aging process. You'll need to investigate by contacting the company. Do let us know if you become any smarter on the topic... https://delarosa613.com/product/balsami ... c-vinegar/

Why is the "mother" in ACV illegal? Yikes! I did not know this and will stop using it now.
SCD and Vinegar, the allowed and the not allowed
Apple Cider Vinegar is only legal WITHOUT "The Mother" in it, it must be filtered! "The Mother" looks like a "cob-web" like stringy structure with tentacles that either floats or settles at the bottom of the bottle. In general this is what turns alcohol into vinegar. Elaine did not want us consuming this as it can feed bad yeasts. The company Spectrum has a legal filtered one. IE. Braggs ACV is illegal as it contains "The Mother". It is possible to strain "The Mother" out yourself by using a very fine sieve.

Ah that might be where I've been going wrong with ACV. I found it gave me candida - I'll filter it and try again
