Canned tomato sauce vs glass jars

I'm brand new to the SCD diet and keep reading conflicting things about tomato sauce. Is canned tomato sauce okay if it has no sugar listed on the label? What about if it's in glass or a tetra-pak? Same with other vegetables? I've read in a few place that this is just an old rule because all sauce used to container sugar but just wanted to make sure. \n\nThank you all!

Hi, welcome abroad! Elaine cautioned strongly about tomato sauce. Tomato sauce in a can is never legal. Canned veggies are a no-no too. Wellbee's does carry some legal tomato products in a jar, such as http://www.wellbees.com/bionaturae-orga ... paste.html and http://www.wellbees.com/marinara-sauce-1228.html.

Is Tomato Juice in a Plastic Container ok? It says it's 100% Tomato Juice from concentrate but lists water, salt citric acid, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in the ingredients. Is this legal?

Hello, \n\nHere's what http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ says about juice from concentrate: \n*Juice from concentrate is normally illegal because when it is reconstituted they often add other things (like sugar). Often additives are not listed on the label.*\n\nDo you have an Aldis around you? I use Aldis tomato juice in a can since it is not from concentrate. It boils down really well, and has a nice smooth consistency. I season it with salt, basil, oregano, garlic (McCormick brand since they say that all ingredients are declared on the package. Some garlic powders are not legal, as companies sometimes add free-flowing agents to the spice, and don't state it on the label), honey, and dried onions to make a delicious spaghetti sauce.:tomato: \n\nBlessings, \nKyrie \n\nIsaiah 40:31 "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31\n\nMay God give you strength to persevere with the diet. The results are truly wonderful. I know from experience! :grinning:

This tomato juice contains legal ingredients. You should get a letter from the company confirming that these are the only ingredients in the juice.

How come in the BVC book, Elaine says it's okay to use the whole tomatoes in a can to cook with. Did that change?

What about tomato puree that's NOT canned? I got one from UK in a tube (like a toothpaste tube), is that okay? It lists only 2 ingredients: Tomato Puree and Ascorbic Acid?\n\nThanks in advance,

You will need to contact the company and check that there are no other added ingredients...In a tube or can is fine....it is the ingredients, not the container that makes it legal or illegal.

as much as i have heard, canned tomato keeps its longevity longer, but those in glass jars are keeping their properties better, true?
