The most popular asked question is: "is the SCD a lifetime diet?" The answer is NO. Once you heal, and are a full year with no symptoms, you can gradually wean off. However, never go back to the typical American diet, since your symptoms will most likely reappear in full color. Gradually adding healthy grains and super foods is the way to go. I feel the paleo diet is a great option. It allows really good stuff like quinoa, sweet potatoes, chia/flax/hemp seeds, etc. and focuses on a very healthy, old fashioned ancestral diet with no gluten and refined sugar. It also promotes good things like fermenting. All in all, the paleo diet is a very good choice once you can get off SCD, and try to stick to it for life, so there's no reappearance of symptoms.

Once you're ready to wean off the SCD, you can add one at a time: quinoa, millet, kasha, and oriental sweet potatoes. You may also try some flax seeds and hemp seeds. Try to incorporate iron rich foods into your diet. The following foods are very high in iron: beef liver, salmon, pumpkin seeds, lentils, spinach, quinoa (not scd), kidney beans, black beans, tahini (opt for a sprouted version), broccoli,

Hi Esther,\n\nHow do you recommend introducing illegals properly? Does one start with one table spoon of illegal food (example: Brown rice) once a week and keep doing it for a month and if good, then add another tablespoon next month? \n\nDoes Rochel Weiss offer guidance in this or know someone who does? \n\nThank you so much
