Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
Does anyone know which yogurts are okay to use a starter for homemade yogurt IN ISRAEL?
Re: Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
You can reach out to Mrs. Cohen from Bnei Brak - she takes care of SCD in Israel. She'll be able to guide you - 03-570-3123.
Re: Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
Thank you so much! This is so helpful to know!
Re: Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
I tried calling the number a few times but she didn't answer. Does she have another number or an email?
Re: Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
I do not have an email for her, or an alternative number.
However, I reached out to a fellow SCD'er in Israel for insights, see his reply below:
Whenever I made yogurt, I would bring a big container of American yogurt and my parents would bring me from time to time. Each one would last me a few months (I would make sure the expiration was a few months out)
Most of the yogurts here use bifidus.

There is a guy that makes SCD yogurt and sells it in Jerusalem Simcha Shteiff 053-311-4567 its been few years since we got yogurt from him, but check it out , this yogurt is a little bit more sour than the one I make at home. I hope it's helpful

A fellow SCD'er in Israel is getting some yogurt for himself from the US to serve him for starters, and offered to bring extra if anyone here needs...
Re: Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
How long can yogurt bought as starter last for? Can it be frozen?
Re: Yogurt starters IN ISRAEL
It cannot be frozen.
Regarding how long it can last, here's what the SCD'er in Israel shared:

Mrs. Cohen from Bnei Brak told me a few years ago that you can use a plain BIO yoghurt as starter.
