I am having a hard time figuring out when bananas are ready to eat. My bananas are heavily spotted yet there is still green at the top and sometimes underneath the brown spots. If I wait to eat, they will be rotten. Can they be eaten now?
I suggest pressing on the fruit. If it's still rather firm, it's not yet ready. If it gives under gentle pressure, it's good. I also go by smell. When they are ripe and ready I can smell them. When they are green, they don't have any smell.
If your bananas are heavily spotted they can be eaten. If they are ripening to quick you can seperate green bananas when unripe and then just keep some in a warmish spot to ripen and leave the others in a cooler place.
If too many ripen at once they can be frozen singly for use later in baking or smoothies etc.
